Towards a Minerals Local Plan for Derbyshire and Derby - Hard Rock Sites Consultation
In 2015 and 2016, the Councils carried out extensive consultation in the form of a series of papers, which sought to develop the emerging vision and objectives, strategies and policies of the new Minerals Local Plan. This Consultation incorporated the development of strategies for the provison of hard rock minerals e.g. limestone, sandstone and gritstone, including whether to opt for the identification (allocation) of specific sites to ensure future supply. It also included a Site Assessment Methodology that would be used to assess sites for their suitablility to be allocated. If the identification of sites is considered the best option for ensuring supply, the Draft Plan will allocate suitable sites to commence working during the Plan period to 2030.
We are grateful to those that have made comments and suggestions, which we are taking into account in preparing the Draft Minerals Local Plan to be published for comment next year. To assist further with this, we are now publishing a number of additional papers relating to specific sites that have been suggested for inclusion in the Plan. The proposed sites are an extension to Whitwell Quarry, an extension to Ashwood Dale Quarry, an extension to Brassington Moor Quarry, an extension to Mouselow Quarry and a new quarry for building stone at Bent Lane, Darley Dale (known as New Parish Quarry). We have also published a revised Site Assessment Methodology that we have used to carry out an initial assessment of these sites and a revised Strategy Paper for Building Stone. You can click on this link to the recent Rolling Consultation to read any of the strategy and supporting papers that were consulted upon at this stage.
We are now inviting comments on the papers set out in the Consultation Documents section below. Please make sure that we receive your comments by Tuesday 28 February 2017.
As part of this consultation, we are holding a series of informal drop-in sessions with local communities to discuss the proposals for these sites. These are as follows:
Thursday 2nd February, The Whitworth Centre, Darley Dale, 9am-7pm
Friday 3rd February, Whitwell Library 2pm-6.30pm
Monday 6th February Buxton Library, 2pm-6.30pm
Friday 10th February, Brassington Village Hall, 2pm-6.30pm
Monday 13th February, Glossop Library 2-6.30pm
You can email comments to ETC.Wastemin@derbyshire.gov.uk or send them by post to the Development Plans Team, Planning Services, Shand House, Dale Road South, Matlock, DE4 3RY. All your comments and suggestions will be used to inform the draft Plan, on which we will seek your views in Summer 2017, before it is published and then examined by an independent inspector next year.
When adopted, the Minerals Local Plan will provide the main policy guidance for assessing planning applications for minerals developments in Derbyshire and Derby.
