Towards a Minerals Local Plan: Spring 2018 Consultation

During 2015 and 2016, Derbyshire County Council and Derby City Council undertook a rolling consultation process, whereby a series of papers were published for comment over a period of time. This sought to engage the wider community of Derbyshire and Derby in helping us to develop the vision, objectives, strategies and policies of the future Minerals Local Plan for the area.  This was then followed in 2017 by a consultation to consider a number of hard rock sites that had been suggested for inclusion in the Plan.  An earlier consultation in 2012 considered sand and gravel sites that had been suggested for inclusion in the Plan.

We are grateful for the comments that people provided during these consultations, and these have been taken into account, along with all other relevant information, in developing this draft version of the Plan – the next stage in the development of this Plan.  It sets out the draft vision and objectives and overarching strategic sustainability principles which will underpin the Plan, together with the approach to the provision for each of the important minerals found in the area and which are likely to be in demand during the Plan period.  It also contains a set of draft policies, which will be used to assess and determine new proposals for mineral development.  The main Local Plan document is at the top of the list of Consultation Documents below, followed by a series of background and supporting documents.

All comments and suggestions will be used to inform the preparation of a Proposed Draft Local Plan, on which we will seek further views early in 2019, before the Plan is published later in 2019 and then examined by an independent Inspector in 2020.

When adopted, the Minerals Local Plan will provide the main policy guidance for assessing planning applications for minerals developments in Derbyshire and Derby.
