The matter of extensions to existing sites versus new sites is one for the mineral planning authority to consider on an area-by-area and case-by-case basis. Whilst cumulative impact may be a consideration, it may be outweighed by the increased restoration potential afforded by the assembly of larger land units. The suggestion that areas of the Dove Valley should be explored for future sand and gravel working is warranted given the length of the plan period. As well as the areas around Foston and Scropton the area of the Dove Valley to the north of Uttoxeter should also be explored.

Para 7.14- 7.17. BW notes the possibility that sites for sand and gravel provision might be identified in the Core Strategy as strategic allocations, and that this may include extensions to existing sites within the Trent Valley. The extension of existing sites located near to the Trent & Mersey Canal has the potential to significantly impact upon the canal corridor, and BW would wish to have the opportunity to comment on any proposed extensions which might affect the canal and it's setting in o
