Being an engineer I perhaps see quarrying in a different way to someone visiting Derbyshire from an urban environment. I don't see a scar on the landscape, I see engineering, I see Man's ability to harness the landscape. I am not saying that they are as attractive as Telford's bridge across the Menai Straits but it could be said that pretty 'chocolate box' villages are a blight to an unadulterated valley.
