I would draw to your attention that active consideration is being given to submission of a bid for World Heritage Status for Creswell Crags which lies within Bolsover District. The setting of the Crags is regarded as an important issue in attaining World Heritage Status. Consequently, it will be important to recognise and resolve any issues arising from protection of this setting and the activities of existing and potential mineral operations nearby. Indeed, paragraphs 7.22 and 7.23 of the Strategy raise the possibility of the future extraction of limestone at a new site in the vicinity of the Crags, albeit in Nottinghamshire.

It is requested therefore that the following amendments are made in the next version of the Minerals Core Strategy:

- That paragraph 7.23 be amended to refer directly to the need to protect Creswell Crags and its setting from the impact of any future/additional quarrying, and that this is assessed at the outset of any proposals. Also that the Bolsover District Council is asked to work closely with the two County Councils on any future proposals in this area.
