When calculating the number of new minerals sites required to ensure there is sufficient minerals provision, the contribution from existing sites should be taken into account.

When identifying new minerals sites Internationally Designated Wildlife Sites will have an accompanying buffer zone within which no minerals sites should be located. Any sites located outside the boundaries of any Internationally important site will need to be individually assessed as there may be to as important concentrations of species which may result in a site being deemed unsuitable.
