Towards a Minerals Local Plan for Derbyshire and Derby

Towards a Strategy for Aggregate Crushed Rock

Vision and Objectives

3       Vision and Objectives

3.1     A separate paper will seek your views on the emerging vision and objectives for the plan and will ask what you think about matters relating to the provision of aggregate crushed rock, including:

  • contributing to the national and local mineral supply by maintaining an adequate and steady supply of minerals (crushed rock, industrial limestone, sand & gravel, coal and other specialist minerals)
  • providing minerals for the delivery of sustainable economic development and regeneration of Derbyshire and Derby
  • making the most sustainable use of mineral resources, including by maximising the use of recycled and secondary materials in meeting recognised national and local requirements and by ensuring the most efficient use of high quality minerals and the minimisation of waste materials
  • ensuring that the cumulative impact of mineral working on local communities is taken into account.

Further more detailed evidence regarding aggregate crushed rock is available in the Crushed Rock for Aggregate Supporting Paper, December 2014, the Local Aggregate Assessment, 2014 and in Responses to the Derby and Derbyshire Minerals Plan Issues and Options Consultation Paper, 2011.
