Towards a Minerals Local Plan for Derbyshire and Derby

Towards a Strategy for Brick Clay and Fireclay

Duty to Cooperate

  1. Duty to Co-operate

4.1     National Planning Practice Guidance sets out that in planning for minerals extraction, mineral planning authorities are expected to co-operate with other authorities on strategic matters. The provision of brick clay is considered to be a strategic matter because Mouselow Quarry makes a significant contribution to the supply of brick clay to Denton brickworks in Manchester. Similarly, Waingroves Quarry supplies a significant amount of material to three brick works operated by Hansons, one in Nottinghamshire and two in Leicestershire.  We are liaising with MPAs where we know that brick clay is exported to ensure that this demand is taken into account in making provision for the future supply of the mineral in our Plan.
